The Sound of the City – Camerata Trajectina

Monday December 27 | 13:30 hr

The International Chamber Music Festival Utrecht (IKFU) and Camerata Trajectina are entering into an annual collaboration entitled the Sound of the City. As the ‘musical memory of the Netherlands’, Camerata Trajectina delves into the rich music history of the Dom City and sheds light on known and unknown musical episodes.

We would kick off on December 29, 2020, if it weren’t for corona throwing a spanner in the works. Now we will pick up on Monday, December 27, 2021. Then we will perform a program about “our” city: Utrecht, with its “beauties”, has already been sung in song collections such as the Utrechts Zangprieeltje (1649) and Erato (1646) by Leonardus Gouwerack. Willem Wander van Nieuwkerk (1955) wrote the song cycle To the Bride to poems by the Utrecht poet Ingmar Heytze. Especially for this program Willem Wander arranges this work for Camerata Trajectina and her historical instruments. Poet Jasper Albinus (*1999) provides a further connection with the present, among other things he will read from his own work.

It will be a musical and poetic celebration in honor of this wonderful city.
