Due to illness during rehearsal for this concert, Janine Jansen will not play during this concert. Therefore, the program has changed slightly. An email has been sent to ticket buyers. Janine will, however, play in the remaining concerts of the festival.*

After two editions that were canceled within sight of the port, the IKFU is finally back in the familiar place between Christmas and New Year’s Eve! And the opening concert starts immediately with the most beautiful chamber music you could wish for! Guest programmer Amihai Grosz selected three gems to start with: the well-known second string sextet by all-time favorite Brahms, the romantic Maiblumen blühten überall in which soprano Alma Sadé will sound like a nightingale and the concert will be concluded by our own Janine Jansen who will solo in the concerto for violin, piano and quartet by Chausson. During this opening concert you can already meet the New Generation Artists: the Norwegian string quartet Opus 13 and great talent and also a student of Janine: Hana Chang.

*Because Janine Jansen was unable to travel to Utrecht due to illness, we had to adjust the rehearsal schedule. To allow sufficient rehearsal time for Chausson’s Concerto for violin, piano and string quartet and to give her sufficient recovery time, we unfortunately had to decide to swap Chausson with the Brahms Horn Trio in E-flat. The Chausson will now sound on the closing night of the festival on Friday, December 30. The beautiful Brahms horn trio will now be heard on the opening night.

This concert will be recorded by AVROTROS and broadcast live on NPO Radio 4 and via radio4.nl.
